What Making a Difference Looks Like

What Making a Difference Looks Like
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” - often attributed to - Mahatma Gandhi

As the Washington outreach coordinator with the Freedom Foundation, my job description is listed under “Freedom in Action” on the staff page of our website.
What does “Freedom in Action look like? Freedom in action looks like a small army going door to door across the state to inform union members of their constitutional rights to stop funding the political portion of their union dues or, in some cases, their ability to end paying dues altogether.
It also looks like an aggressive legal team that both defends good ideas in practice and goes after bad ones. We will not sit by idly while good intentions are snuffed out and bad ideas are imposed unchallenged.
But when you engage in a meaningful way to create change, especially when that change affects an existing power structure, those in positions of power will fight back.
Bullying, intimidation, and fear are some of the tools of the trade for those whose moral and intellectual arguments cannot win the day.
If you’re passionate about controversial issues and you're donating to an organization that is not being attacked, they probably aren’t doing anything meaningful.
Organizations that move beyond the realm of white papers and ideas, those that take internet arguments and blogs and turn them into measurable action, those groups are on the front line shifting the battle of ideas where they face vicious and hostile wars waged with slander, lawsuits, infiltration and economic warfare.

“You see, in life, lots of people know what to do, but few people actually do what they know. Knowing is not enough! You must take action.” Tony Robbins
The fact is, most individuals and organizations don’t have what it takes to get in the ring and take on the heavyweights. Instead, they engage in armchair philosophizing and Monday-morning quarterbacking.
Few have ever stood in the way of the progressive machine, and fewer have remained standing after the target has been painted on their back.
Not everyone has what it takes to stand up against bullying, intimidation, and fear mongering.
“The flak never gets heavy until you’re over the target.”
The Freedom Foundation courageously stands and fights to advance individual liberty, free enterprise and limited, accountable government in Washington, Oregon, and California.
Soon after coming to work at the Freedom Foundation, I learned that at every public appearance I was to make, there would be someone undercover trying to get firsthand intelligence and or audio and video to use against us.
A few months later, an organization called the Northwest Accountability Project (NAP) was created. NAP is a front group for Democrats, Progressives and organized labor to attack the Freedom Foundation.
““SEIU hasn’t gone quietly into the night,” McCabe said. “They’re fighting to shut down our effort. Effort takes courage – and maybe a bit of stupidity – to take them (SEIU) on.”
The Freedom Foundation has received many threats. SEIU has sent a series of inflammatory brochures and letters to McCabe’s neighbors. They have canvassed the entire city, warning neighbors to watch out for McCabe, because he’s “anti-worker.” They have even produced and deployed Robocalls with the same messaging.

The organization’s business-owning board members have been harassed at their offices with people standing outside the business, protesting and picketing. Whenever the organization holds any kind of public event, SEIU members show up en masse to cause a disruption. TownHall

The bottom picture is what it looks like outside every other conservative think tanks fundraiser.

A typical morning conversation at the Freedom Foundation:
While getting coffee, I ask one of the attorneys if they will make it to the game tonight, their response, “If we don’t get sued today.”
We don’t sit on the sideline and play it safe. Playing it safe is to surrender. We not only stand our ground, but we also fight back.
The fight for freedom is too important to not be on call 24-7
No matter what happens, remember most bullies’ greatest success is not fighting; it is the threat of a fight. And if no one is there to stand tall, that intimidation is enough to win the day.
Often, all that is needed to win is the guarantee that your opponent is going to be in the fight of their lives.
As it once brought terror and fear to elected officials to face public-sector unions wrath, those same unions tremble when they hear the words “Freedom Foundation.”
Please take a moment to ask yourself, am I supporting and donating to an organization that is really making a difference, or am I sitting on the sidelines, or giving to an organization that puts out feel-good emails and letters but does not actually make a significant difference?

I hope you will stand with us in this fight. You don’t have to get in the ring, but the more support we have, the greater the action and impact we can make.
“After reading a mocking account of the Foundation’s activities in my public employee newspaper, I decided to become a regular contributor to your organization.” 5/17/2017
I hope you too will become a regular donor to the Freedom Foundation.

Grassroots Revolt Against GOP Elitism

By Matthew Hayward In the complex arena of political strategy, even those who occupy the highest echelons of power can falter, demonstrating a profound disconnect between their strategic intentions and operational execution. The recent failure to secure the endorsement for their preferred candidate, Dave Reichert, is not merely a setback; it is a revealing exposé of the grave strategic missteps at the heart of the Republican party's establishment in Washington State. These seasoned campaigners, these stewards of conservative strategy, have evidently underestimated the critical importance of grassroots engagement. While I acknowledge the logic behind promoting an established politician strategically positioned geographically and perceived as moderate in our swing state—a strategy driven by considerations of electability, which admittedly has its merits—the incessant focus on this argument and complete lack of any meaningful engagement and education has alienated the grassroots yet a...

Could Today Be the Cheapest Price for Bitcoin Ever Again? Here’s Why

By: Matthew Hayward Current price  Nov 10, 2024 76.72K 80.43K Is Now the Time to Buy Bitcoin? Bitcoin has come a long way since its early days as a niche digital asset. Today, as we enter another phase in its established four-year cycle , Bitcoin may be at a historic high, but it could soon become the new baseline price. This cycle, which has repeatedly shown Bitcoin’s resilience and long-term growth potential, suggests that the current price might be the lowest we’ll see again. While recent political shifts, including Donald Trump’s landslide election victory, have added new momentum and support for Bitcoin, the timing within the cycle itself makes this an ideal moment to consider buying. A Political Shift: From Anti-Crypto to Pro-Crypto For years, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have faced an uphill battle against a U.S. government determined to restrict and control their growth. This opposition was largely led by Gary Gensler, who waged an outright war against crypto from hi...

When the Census Goes Beyond the Constitution

By Matthew Hayward The Census: From Counting People to Collecting Control The Constitution established the census as a straightforward tool for representation—nothing more, nothing less. Article I, Section 2 mandates an enumeration every ten years to determine how many representatives each state is allotted. That’s it. Simple. Effective. Proportional representation was the goal, and the census was designed to achieve it. So how did we end up here—with government agents asking about the number of bathrooms in our homes, our ethnic identities, and everything in between? This is the creeping hand of central planning at work. What began as a tool to empower individual representation has been twisted into a mechanism to empower bureaucrats, planners, and those who believe they know better than free individuals how to run their own lives. Central Planning: The False Promise of Data The justification for prying into the most intimate details of our lives is always the same: “We need the ...
