Who will lead the way?
Rand Paul has a bright future, assuming our country and the world economy can hang on for another round of kick the can. I know Rand has caused some pain in the Liberty movement, but he was only keeping his word. (Because of Rand’s father refusing to endorse the Republican nominee in 08, Rand was asked to promise to support the nominee in 2012 if elected to the Senate, for better or worse he agreed; Rand's later questionable endorsements).
Rand is likely to be a Star for freedom if we are able to come around to understand the deeper workings of the system and the needed pragmatic movement necessary going forward. Rand is the strongest most pragmatic and likely candidate we have, do we really want to throw him under the bus? His dad led the way holding the torch of Liberty, leading us all toward the ideas of freedom. Now Rand and all of us must find our own path. A path that may require doing things and working with people we do not like. That said, we should never compromise our core principles.
I hope not too many of us follow Dr. Paul into the belly of the beast. We must stay strong and fight the long hard battle toward limited government, it does not come all at once, but at least we have a clear vision of what it looks like thanks to Dr. Paul. He walked through quicksand and escaped certain political assassination mostly by being ineffective for so long, he was thought to be irrelevant and was allowed to continue his legacy walking among and through the gauntlet of thieves as a beacon of light for the future.
There is ‘NO’ clear path to our goal, to the torch of liberty Dr. Paul will leave for us on the other side, there is no short cut. We must work together in a full spectrum approach against the party/power structures. From radio to local TV, from PCO to city council and above, we must push forward the ideals and principles of liberty. In doing so, it will be essential in many cases to work side by side with those who we may look at as the opposition. This is going to be a long hard battle of ideas, and it cannot be won without taking control of the rules, the voting structure, raising money, getting people elected into local offices and building a greater foundation for our movement.
Please join me, not in supporting Romney, but in creating a better tomorrow. We have no reason to have hope that we will have better candidates to choose from in the future or that the establishment will support good candidates when they come along. It is up to us to become the insiders, the “establishment.” I know to most this proposition is disgusting, but it really should not be. Serving in public office should be considered an honor. Because public service has been a disgrace for so long, it has gotten a bad rap. Again, it is up to us to restore integrity to the political system.
Please don’t give up, as one persevering inventor said, “Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” To do nothing, to quit, is to create a self-fulfilling prophecy of being ruled by evil. Hold on to your ideals, stay involved and learn more about practical politics and political theater. (Most of you will learn something you did not know about Dr. Paul, he too was playing games with his votes) Remember, “the future belongs to those who show up for it.”
